Lucy has taken over Sean and my life in more ways than one, and now we've decided its a federal holiday's turn. While her middle name is Valentine, it had nothing to do with February 14th and everything to do with her Poppy. He isn't a huge fan of his name, although I dig the name Brett, and thus he's been telling people for quite some time that he wished his name were Chili Valentine. Anyway, so with this, Lucy's second, Valentine's day coming up I began to avoid the obvious and to deter the holiday. Being a geeky single girl a lot of the time when I was younger, I have mixed feelings about a day dedicated to couples. But then I had a change of heart, pun intended. Why not give Lucy an extra day all to her own! Why not use it as a way of showing her that she is loved, and to let her express her love not just for a "special someone" but for her friends and family? To quote multiple bad fashion series, she will "own it!" My hope is that she can grow up knowing this holiday to be familiar and touching. Not just candy, pressure, and at times disappointment. Being alone will never be a worry because she won't be. To her this holiday represents more than a special date night. She won't have to join the backlash either, when single people unite. Instead, my hope is, to Lucy its a day to remind her of how much we care for her, and another day to let her express her admiration for those she cares about. So as the first act of Lucy Valentine's Day she is sending out Valentines of her very own! Now I just have to get my hands on some stamps. :D
